Body Recovered – Owasco Lake
For immediate release
Sheriff David Gould reports The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office along with the New York State Police have recovered a body from the waters of Owasco Lake. The body is that of a white male matching the age, physical and clothing description of Thomas Goff, who went missing on July 25th during a tubing incident.
The body was located using New York State Police side-scan sonar and then recovered and brought to the surface using a New York State Police ROV (remote operated vehicle). The recovery was made through the cooperation of both the New York State Police Scuba Team and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at 11:00am this date in 156 feet of water, near the center of the lake just south of Ensenore Rd. The body has been transferred to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and autopsy.
The digital side-scan sonar unit is manufactured by Marine Sonic Technology Ltd of White Marsh Virginia. The ROV is manufactured by Hydroacoustics Inc. of Henrietta, N.Y. Representatives of both of these companies although not present during today’s recovery have assisted in this search operation.
